News Report Clarification: SPS Not Spending Funds on Antibody Testing for Staff
A recent news report on KFOR and on the station's website KFOR.com reported inaccurate information about Shawnee Public Schools spending federal CARES money on antibody testing for staff.
In fact, Oklahoma Blood Institute reached out to SPS to facilitate a blood drive which would include an optional COVID-19 antibody test for individuals who donate blood. These tests will be made available at no charge to the district, and staff members are not required to participate in the antibody testing or blood drive. This is an effort to assist OBI in building their blood supply at this critical time. Information on the blood drive is available here. Dr. April Grace mentioned this information to the KFOR reporter, who has now made a correction to the article.
To date, the district has spent more than $35,000 on cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment, and expects that amount to continue to climb.
